Yes, there is a reason behind the music. I wrote to you during a period in my life when nothing was going wrong. Everything was okay and I was content with my relationship with God. I couldn’t have foreseen the tough times that were coming, but I was writing the song that would help me get through it all.
What Kind of Song is It?
To You is a simple gospel song. The gospel of Jesus is also known as the good news, and those words could also describe my thoughts and feelings in this song. I long for it, I desire it. It’s meant to take the listener on a journey of reflection on their own life, and in turn, inspire a greater relationship with God.
So What’s the Meaning Behind the Music?
I envisioned the song to be a scene where I am standing in a room with God. It’s completely dark, but He is the only light in it. This way, I have no choice but to be near Him if I want to know where I’m going. I sing the lyrics of these songs to Him in His presence. It is in many ways, a song of repentance, and then adoration to God for how amazing He is. It’s a prayer to remind me that nothing I have gained or will gain can ever be linked to my own strength, but His alone. It inspires worship closer to the end, where I ask Him to keep me humble at His feet.
Who’s the Artist Behind the Music?
I am Marvin-Lee, born and raised in the area of Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town, South Africa. Influenced musically by my mother, who was a singer too. She was part of a prominent gospel group before she had me, and I believe this is where my influence for music comes from. I serve as a chorus leader at Shekinah Full Gospel Church, and also spend my time doing most of the Social Media things as well. I am a Graphic Designer, and love all things creative. I am a God-fearing man, that has devoted my life to Christ, and it’s the best decision I have ever made.
Will There be Any New Music?
I have started with some newer content, and I really would like to do more, but music and pursuing it, is not my first priority. It’s serving those who need willing hands. I have just about completed a second single, and hope to release it some time this year. I cannot reveal the title just yet, but it’s definitely in the same area of being very open with my feelings towards God and how powerful He is. It’s not as slow as the first single, it’s got a bit of a beat to it, but still subtle. I pray it will impact many, because God gave it to me during a sermon at church.
