To You was recorded in November 2019 at Upper Room Studios in Durbanville, South Africa. The recording process in itself was a strenuous journey.

Marvin-Lee has always found comfort in singing to himself, but having to pour his heart out in studio, was a feat he didn’t think would be as difficult as it was.

“To You was written visually. I had to see myself in a space of my own, with only my thoughts and actions. That’s when the words came. What my being felt like expressing, I had to put into words. I grabbed my dad’s guitar, and with what little knowledge of chords I have, I managed to put together a chorus and a verse.’

The song wasn’t complete until Marvin met Paul Daniels, who plays guitar on the single. Paul helped with arrangements and different chords. Once that was settled, Gershwin T Koen was approached to create the masterpiece you hear today.

This song was written at a time when things were going very well, and Marvin didn’t realise it yet, but it would go on to be a preparation for the mountains and valleys to come.

Personal life choices lead to struggles, set backs, heartbreak, lies and deceit. The only credit he can give is to give glory to God for carrying him through every test and trial.

We have to remain humble if we are to achieve the heights we hope to attain.
